With respect, stop helping me.
Start helping out!
Let me explain…
Yesterday, when I came home and you had cleared the breakfast chaos, for example. You looked so excited to show me what you had done – FOR ME.
“Great.” I said
You looked deflated.
“What, no thank you?” Was the silent question in the air.
Here’s the thing….
You should not see helping out – as helping me.
It should not be FOR ME.
It should be for us.
Really, why is it assumed the household jobs are all mine anyway? Sure, you take out the bins and you fix stuff – all of which is great – but if you so much as handle the laundry, or dust, or tidy – you see it as ‘doing me a favour’.
Enough is enough.
We are both adults. We both work. We both have stress.
I worry about the kids – will they be good people? Are they fitting in ok?
You lie awake debating which insurance company to move to.
We have different loads in life, but we are in the same team.
And when we are both at home – it’s a level playing field my friend.
You want me to stop nagging?
Then before you sit down, think….
Can I chip in at all? What needs done before we settle for the evening? How can I get involved in the team.
It’s not FOR ME.
IT’S FOR US.
It’s just common sense. Stuff gets done when people do it.
If everyone shares the load no one gets burned out.
If we all chip in, guess what, chill time comes more quickly.
WIN WIN WIN WIN
So, remember, if you really want to do me a favour, fill my car with petrol. Take the kids out for an hour…
Picking up your clothes and wiping the toilet seat – they are JUST WHAT EVERYONE IS SUPPOSED TO DO.
(and every Wife everywhere)
