I would say
“Sweetheart, let it go.
You were not born an effortless beauty as you would have liked – so what – so you learned instead that you were interesting and funny and that creating laughter trumps any admiring glances.
Nor were you born so privileged that the world was already open wide to you, throwing its bounty at your feet. Big Deal. You learned that closed doors were far more of a thrill than the open ones.
You were born with eyes that see good, a heart that feels joy, a mind so quick it sees around corners and a smile so wide it melts down barriers.
And you were born loved.
Everything else is beside the point.
Do not fear what it is that you are not – be afraid of failing to see what it is that you are.
Life is short and it is there to be lived.
The living really starts when you accept that this, this is you.
And you just ‘go for it’, regardless of who says you can or who says you cannot.
Grab the world by the lapels and introduce yourself.
It has not met you yet.
And it really, really should.
But first you must meet yourself, get to know her.
Nothing will stop you then.”
