YOU HAVE ACHIEVED A LOT
Think about it – not only have you survived another year but you have come through it fighting. You have likely felt like giving up so many times. But you didn’t. You need to pat yourself on the back there. Look at what you have been through, it is no mean feat. Sometimes even the most average day can feel like an expedition, we all know how it feels to be overwhelmed, so perhaps we should praise ourselves much more than we do.
YOU HAVE LEARNED A LOT
Let’s not give the ‘fails’ a headline of their own, instead let’s mark them down to ‘lessons learned’. After all, there is no such thing as a failure, not until the game is well and truly over, and that is not now. Not yet. You have so much left in you to show the world and a million more lessons to learn. If we try we can see the excitement in failing; we always, always emerge better for it. There is no end to how much we can grow.
YOU HAVE LOVED A LOT
If life is actually all about love – and I truly believe it is – then you my friend, are winning at life. You have loved endlessly this year and you have been loved right back. You have even loved when life made it hard to do so. We don’t stop to appreciate this enough. What a wonderful thing it is to love and be loved in return.
YOU HAVE LET GO OF A LOT
You have lost some fears that were holding you back, some opinions that were restricting your ability to soar and probably one or two people who no longer had your best interests at heart. Whilst this is no doubt exactly as it should be, it is good to take a beat and think about them. Part of you will always miss them. Wish them well and move on.
YOU HAVE PUT YOURSELF DOWN A LOT
Probably far too much in fact. For every nice and encouraging thing you tell yourself you have probably uttered a million silent criticisms inside your own head. Make a point with me of changing that for 2018. We can turn the radio station over to positive fm and start loving ourselves more – together we can do it. You and I. It is simply bad habits that we have become intertwined with and with a little introspection, we can unpick it all and start again. Happier and free to be who we are without fear of judgement.
THE TIME IS NOW
This time of year is the perfect opportunity, to reflect on what we have been through and where we want to go next. Even amidst the chaos we can switch off every now and again to connect with our souls – we must. It is also the perfect time to think about those loves we have had to say goodbye to. Keep them with you during the festive season, somewhere, somehow they are there already.
Let them in.
The pain will lessen a little if you do. I promise. They are gone in one sense but not in another, keep their memory alive at this time of the year, it’s important that you do.
By January 1st, if you have done all your looking back, you can move onwards and upwards.
Ladies, and gents, we have a whole new year ahead of us – a fresh book with empty pages ready to be filled with a new chapter.
Let’s make it a good one.
Let’s fill it with stories our loved ones will tell for generations to come.
Pass It On.
