Am I a feminist? Of course, I’m a woman! So should I hate men then? What about high heels and sparkly things, can I still love those? What if I hate high heels and lipstick? Am I less of a woman?
Can I still laugh at male/female humour? Confusing…
IT’S ALL ON YOU
Family goals/house goals/social goals/relationship goals/educational goals/developmental goals – it’s pretty much all on you. Let’s face it, women are somehow expected to be the driving force behind the entire family’s life. If it isn’t suggested/pin-pointed/outlined or just plain done by you, it’s pretty much not going to happen.
YOU CAN’T BREAK
Ever. If you do, nothing works – and I mean nothing. Take a few hours out because ‘you just can’t cope right now’ and the whole machine will grind to a screaming halt, leaving anyone within your household feeling at a loss. Nothing gets done and we most likely return to an even bigger pile of things to do. So we just keep on trucking…
Is sometimes completely overwhelming, we must:
cater for everyone’s needs
have a great house
keep it tidy
forge ahead in a career or even own your own business
be a great parent and give the gift of time to your family
be a great wife
be a great friend
look after your parents as they age
organise your own family’s calendar as well as your social calendar and don’t forget to include the extended family on big holidays too…
TIME IS THE ENEMY
As outlined in the point above, it may seem glaringly obvious that in order to tick off that list – we would really require an extra few hours in every day – and perhaps a full-time assistant/clone. As a woman, there is just never enough time to complete all the things we feel we need to in every day. And that hurts.
What can we do about it?
Start saying no more. Stop judging ourselves and each other. Refuse to be held accountable for a myriad things we just can’t possibly control ALL of the time. TALK more about how much pressure there is these days? Laugh about how ridiculous it all is and start making a point of failing your ‘to-do list’ every day, even just a little.
That would be a start.
It is quite simply just too much.
Pass it On Ladies, we are all in this together…
