I love this quote…
I love it because it’s actually seriously astute. I love it even more when I consider the fact that Marilyn was aware she was not that girl… food for thought indeed.
Knowing how to be happy even when you’re sad, doesn’t mean faking it or covering up your true feelings.
It doesn’t mean plastering a smile over your face to hide the tears.
It means knowing how to stay happy with your lot and your life despite the rain that’s falling through the hole in your roof, metaphorically speaking.
Realising that happiness is a state of mind and not a condition of how your life is going.
The ability to separate your ‘happiness’ from your careeer/relationships, financial state, weight, health etc…
The understanding that even the poorest person with ‘nothing’ to be happy about or the poor soul who has no health too speak of, can actually, in fact, be very happy indeed.
The light bulb moment when you truly get that money, fame, social standing or any of the other ‘goals’ we may chase, do not bring happiness as a companion as we thought, but can in fact highlight even further the sadness in your soul.
Happiness comes from looking in, to yourself and to your heart, and making peace. Then by looking out, to the world as a whole and seeing the big picture.
You can absolutely, definitely 100% choose to be happy despite – well despite just about anything that life can throw at you.
It’s not a gift you can buy, it can only be home-made.
