1. MARK YOUR BAG AS FRAGILE
Apparently this means that your bag will be placed on top of the pile – meaning not only is it less likely to get wrecked but also it will be first onto the carousel after touch-down.
2. ARRIVE EARLY
Airline staff find out about any free premium seats well in advance so this is when you are most likely to get an upgrade and also your pick of the normal seats – saves you forking out on pre-booking. Alternatively, when reserving seats for two people, choose the aisle and window seats. If no one takes the middle seat, then you get the full row, and if someone does, then just ask to switch seats so you can sit next to your partner.
3. DOWNLOAD FLIGHT UPDATES
No need to get up and check the board with everyone else if you download Flight Board App. Stay in your seat and keep abreast of any news.
4. DON’T PAY MORE
Download an app like XE Currency Converter to find out the best exchange rates for your holiday money before you travel – NEVER buy it at the airport. This app is great for immediately working out the real cost of things when you’re there too.
5. SUNDOWN CHECK-IN
If you are travelling with kids early in the morning, did you know you can check in your bags the night before and just turn up and go the next day? Works well if you are staying in an airport hotel or live near the airport. Check your airport website for details it’s called a Sundown Check-in.
6. READ ANY LANGUAGE
Download Google Translate before you go. Did you know it has a photo function so you can snap your menu and voila! You have it translated for you? Absolutely genius.
7. KNOW YOUR WAY ROUND
If you’re jaunting off on a city-break download CityMapper! It will help you get around like a local and show you everything you need to know.
8. UNEASY FLYER
The advice during turbulence is to jiggle around in your seat., apparently one movement cancels out the other – let’s hope you’re not next to a stranger though! If you are prone to nausea don’t forget your Sea-bands – they really work.
9. ACCESS ALL AREAS
Don’t forget to check your phone provider’s travel conditions. Turn off Data Roaming on your iPhone if you don’t want to rack up bills. Likewise, call your credit card company before you leave and check their terms and conditions for your card whilst you’re away. Some companies provide Travel Insurance as part of your package too which is a bonus.
10. SAFE-KEEPING
Scan your passport, identification card, and itinerary and email them to yourself. This provides an extra copy of each in the event of loss or theft. If you have an iPhone, save them into My Books, this gives you an offline record too.
