This is by far my favourite news story from international Women’s Day, I couldn’t love it more…
Sometime in the very early hours of Tuesday morning, a new statue appeared a few feet away from the world-famous Charging Bull in The Financial District of New York City. The statue, sculpted by Kristen Visbal, is modelled on a 9 year old girl and stands defiantly as a symbol of gender discrimination in corporate boardrooms.
As if the visual message wasn’t awesome enough there is an even wider positive to this stunt engineered by State Street Global Advisors… they have pledged to pressure over 3000 firms to aim for gender parity on their boards!
The statue is to be there for a week, as in the terms of it’s permit, but it’s popularity is so vast that it may just take up permanent residence!
If you want the girl to remain, you can sign the petition here!
Come on ladies, I really want to visit this the next time I go to The Big Apple – we can help make it happen.
