If you have young kids like me (and haven’t been put off theme parks for good after the recent publicity surrounding the safety aspects), then a night or two away in Alton Towers Enchanted Village should definitely go on your wish list.
We took advantage of an offer this summer and bought a night in the village which included two days park access – the total cost was £365 for 2 adults and 2 children.
My kids are 4 and 8 and they really loved the magical touches within each lodge, the enchanted tree was just gorgeous and I am a real sucker for all the themed decor inside, which is entirely what took us there in the first place!
My sister and her children stayed next door with an adjoining terrace so all in all it was perfect for us although I wouldn’t have loved sharing the double unit with strangers as we are not the quietest bunch…worth thinking about if you aren’t in a group.
We booked Saturday evening dinner in the main hotel, literally a stone’s throw away from the village, and the entertainment was just great although like most places catering for so many, the food was fairly average. A brilliant night was had by us all though! The atmosphere was buoyant and relaxed and the kids could run free and sing along with the live music act – which my kids just loved.
I had previously booked Sunday breakfast in the The Crooked Spoon and I’m glad I did because just strolling in for a bite to eat is
not an option at Alton Towers! Book ahead for sure. The breakfast was hearty and vast and good enough.
My advice would be to bring your own snacks and drinks as the shop is expensive although seriously cute and convenient if you are stuck. Oh, and we needed a plaster whilst there and nobody had one! Not the restaurant, reception or the shop! I could not get my head around that.
All in all, I would say it was pretty good value for money and I would definitely go back – the Tree Houses situated next to the village look seriously good fun for groups and I believe are equipped with hot tubs! Will be checking that out in future….
